Random Thought of the Day

This guy came in to work today to see one of our employees and gave me his card.

His name is Roman.

In 1000 years, are people going to name their children American?

Wedding

Well, I haven't written in a long time. Not a lot has changed, still working and going to school.

Most recently my friend Grinning got married...here's a pic, isn't she purty? :) This was when it started getting cold. :)

It's so weird that she's married now :p

Anyway, it's late and I am tired and cold and trying to watch Gilmore Girls...so I will have to post more later. :)

Convenience

Everything these days is about convenience. You no longer have to go to the video store to get a movie (Netflix, Blockbuster Online, etc.); photos are digital, so you upload them at home and do mail-order for the prints (or print at home); heck, you don't even have to lather soap anymore because it comes out foamy*. What's next, pre-chewed food?

*Yes, I know, part of this is infusing air in order to use less soap...but still. Pre-foamy?

This is a picture of my niece...we hope when she can read she doesn't get confused about the adoption thing!

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Here are the lyrics to two of my favorite songs from the soundtrack of the most recent movie rendering of this Douglas Adams book...

Vote Beeblebrox

Zaphod Beeblebrox
He's the guy you want to vote for
When you get into that Voting Booth
Put an X next to his name

Zaphod Beeblebrox for President
Building bridges between the stars
In no way is he stupid
In no way is his brain impaired
It's just not true, he's smarter than you
And he's better looking too

Zaphod Beeblebrox
Has the longest hair of any candidate
And he's got the coolest shades
And his teeth are white as snow

So let's elect him President
He'll build bridges between the stars
Don't believe the rumours
Don't believe those vicious lies
They're just not true
He's smarter than you
And he's better looking too

(Spoken)
"Listen. I just wanted to say, y'know.
Whatever presidents say y'know.
Things like, er... the name of people and er, freedom
And I dunno. Democracy, stuff like that. Woo! Come on!"

Zaphod Beeblebrox for President
Building bridges between the stars
In no way is he stupid
In no way is his brain impaired
It's just not true, he's smarter than you
And he's better looking too

So Long & Thanks for All the Fish

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?

You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

The world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

(yeah)

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?

(oh dear)

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

Nose pimples

...suck. Granted, you can't see them...but people look at you funny when you touch your nose and grimace. The grimacing doesn't happen all the time, but when it catches you by surprise...then people are thinking "wtf is your problem?" Sometimes they give you a WTF look, so you have to explain that you just made a face because of your invisible nose pimple and then, instantly, they understand.

I caught a fly at the A's game!!!! It kind of grazed off my finger and that hurt a bit, but then it landed under the seat in front of me. I was going to let that guy have it but he said I could instead :) It was awesome!! And, I need a glove, LOL.

I have very recently discovered that airport food is worse than hospital food...I would eat hospital food again. I guess next time I will know not to eat at the airport...

For a limited time only!!1!one

Yesterday I saw something odd, which I haven't ever seen before. Actually, it wasn't so much the thing that was odd as much as the sign and the location.

As I was driving yesterday, I saw one of those outdoor canopies such as you would see at, say, an outdoor barbecue or a booth at a flea market. There were two, actually, and they were in the parking lot at a gas station with several signs stating that they were selling shoes for $19.95. Well, selling shoes is not odd, and neither is selling them for $19.95. What struck me as odd was that a). they were in a gas station parking lot and b). there was a sign that said "For a limited time only!"

No way. You mean that a "shop" set up in a parking lot isn't permanent? That when they decide they're closed, invisible walls don't encase the canopies to prevent a 100% discount?

Holy crap Batman!

For a limited time only...you don't say. :)

ICE cell phone entry

ICE - In Case of Emergency

I heard this on the radio, and it's a good idea. I don't wear a medical bracelet, but I am allergic to penicillin and all cillin family drugs. The purpose of this is that most people like me don't wear a bracelet, but those who have a cell phone generally carry it with them.

If there is an emergency and the victim is unconscious, calling the ICE contact can clue in the emergency worker as to what medication the person may be on, or what they are allergic to.

It can't hurt, but it can help a lot.

Supreme Court Justice Nominee John Roberts

Here's your chance to ask questions! Seven Democrat women have set up a website that allows you to ask a question that you would like to have answered by nominee John Roberts.

I highly urge you all to participate - remember, the Supreme Court has no court of appeals. As such, we need to be aware and concerned with lifetime Justice appointments.

Harry Potter

So, anyone know when the next book is out? Book 6 was phenomenal, as usual, and now I can't wait for the conclusion. I will probably experience regret at the end of 7 because it will be the end, but at the same time...at least I'll know what happens.

Well, hopefully in a day or two I can embrace the suspense...but for now, I am frustrated :p

Progress...but not on homework.

I managed to move a lot of stuff to our on-premise storage unit (4'x4'x?'....10'?) this afternoon, and I am feeling rather accomplished. It's a big rush to get everything FINALLY unpacked before my mom gets here. Plus, I would sort of like to unpack the table set I spent about $200 on :)

My biggest accomplishment was on the patio, however. I got enough space cleared that I could set up the Rubbermaid shelves outside ( ---> ) and there's space in front of them! I didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but I am pleased with the results.

Avoiding homework...again and still!

Ahh yes, my old remedy to hating school...avoiding it and waiting until the last minute to finish, while hating myself for procrastinating. There certainly is something to be said for the familiar feeling of being home!

As I speak, I am supposed to be examining a scenario to determine if there is any civil liability for one of the characters and one of the companies involved in said scenario. All in all it is interesting, but it's still school and as such, it's not fun :) But, I'll still put in the research and turn out a quality paper. I am such a lousy model student :)

And on to the required reading...it's completely insane to expect someone to be able to read 150-300 pages of a textbook in a week, every week for five weeks, with one break between classes, and still emerge from the experience a fully functioning, cognitive, creative, well-adjusted human being. I feel like doing cartwheels across what would be considered a lawn in this tiny apartment complex, chanting, "they've come to take me away, ha ha," and bonking my head into the wall repeatedly for having set this course for myself.

Anyway, I do enjoy school and the debates that we have in our classroom, but I have to wonder if I will carry even 15% of what I have learned into the workplace with me once I have earned my degree and marched in the footsteps of others who've gone before me in search of the ever-better career. Do I want to climb the ladder? Do I have what it takes? Who knows...I hope I'm up to the course I've set for myself.

So much to do, so little time

I feel so busy lately...part of me likes it, and part of me just wants to sit around doing nothing but fun stuff like reading or playing video games all day :)

Last weekend was my first trip to Disneyland...it was a lot of fun! My boyfriend was traveling with me, and we stayed at his grandmother's house. She was the reason for the trip, but since it was nearby we also did Disney. It was a nice visit, even though I got sick on the day we came home and it's a really long drive. I think next time we visit we'll be flying.

Coming up next month my mom is visiting. This is the first real visit for her; the only other time she's been here she was helping me move, and that was not exactly a fun trip. We're going camping in Castle Craggs State Park, and visiting Mt. Shasta as well as McCloud for the Civil War re-enactment. It should be a fun event; the whole town participates. It starts with the Rebels taking over and ends with the Union chasing them out by railroad. It should be a blast, and I am really looking forward to it :) My only regret is that she can't stay longer. We won't be spending much time around here so I can't take her much of anywhere where I actually live, so that's kind of a bummer. Oh well.

In September, I'll be traveling to Texas to visit my niece for her first birthday and to visit my other friends and family that are scattered about there. I'll be there from September 2-11th, and I'll be between Houston and Dallas/Austin (depending on where my brother is living at that time).

October brings my friend's wedding and a 5 day trip to Missouri. Whether I am in the wedding is up in the air, but I'll be there nonetheless.

So, between work, travel, and school, I should be pretty busy. And, one of these days I guess I will have to really unpack :)

Stupid People

Ok, I have heard some dumb things in my lifetime but this is pretty bad.

Not wearing a seatbelt in a convertible so she can make a quick escape in the event of an accident...? She'll make a really quick escape when she flies out!!!

Mr. Roadshow column, San Jose Mercury News

Q. While I usually agree with your conservative and sensible point of view, I must differ with you on mandatory seat belts. I'm a convertible driver, and it's my understanding that I'm more likely to survive a serious accident (particularly a roll) if I'm not buckled up and can quickly react to move within or escape from the car or even be thrown out rather than be immobilized and trapped by a shoulder harness. Of course I'd be willing to change my mind and driving habits if you have any statistics on accidents involving convertibles that would refute this.

Heidi Munzinger
Sunnyvale

A. Heidi, Heidi, Heidi. A seat belt and shoulder harness provides you with a cushion of safety. A crash would happen so fast that you won't have time to escape from your car. Imagine your skull being an egg shell. And imagine what happens to that shell when it's thrown from a car going 65 mph and smacks onto hard concrete. It's not pretty.

Busy!!

This weekend is crazy! I feel like I need an appointment book, lol.

This afternoon I get off work at 3:30. I should be home by 4:00…and then I have to bathe Gavin, our dog…he has a vet appointment tomorrow and he’s The Incredible Stink Monster (hmm, maybe I should make a radiation hero on City of Heroes, LOL!), which is part of why he’s going in.

Anyway, I need to be done with that by 5:00 so I can get cleaned up and go see Cake in concert :D Very much looking forward to that.

Tomorrow there is an appointment for my cat Anna at 10:30 (hotspots), Gavin at 11:15, and then we’re going to lunch with my friend for his birthday (as previously mentioned). We have to wrap up by 3:00 though so I can go home and get ready for dinner and the play.

Sunday isn’t too hectic. We decided against taking the boyfriend’s sister out for her birthday because, being Mother’s Day, we would be fighting crowds for no reason…and, of course, the day will be bittersweet because this will be the kids’ first one since their mom passed away.

And next weekend we move, LOL. Ah well, I am sure things will settle soon – at least I don’t have a class starting until the 17th.

Still busy

Well, I haven't had all that much free time lately to write anything. I am still in Statistics II, and I am still in Algebra I.

Thankfully, Statistics will be over on May 4th, and that will close another chapter of my schooling at UoP. Apparently, Statistics I&II are the hardest courses on the curriculum, so everything will become more familiar as I go along. Believe me, I can do with a reprieve from those alien numbers and calculations!

This next week should be extremely busy...well, who am I kidding -- the entire month of May will be really busy. I already listed my schedule, so doing that again would be redundant -- I shall avoid it. But, next weekend will be insane! On Friday my boyfriend and I are going to see Cake in concert. Saturday I am probably having lunch with the boyfriend and our friend to celebrate the friend's birthday...that evening I am going to dinner & a play with my boyfriend...and Sunday we are celebrating the boyfriend's sister's birthday.

And while I am talking about May and being busy, let me also add I'm going to be broke.

I have:

May 1 - friend bday
May 6 - bf sister's bday
May 8 - Mother's Day (for my mom and sister-in-law)
May 12 - brother bday
May 17 - dad bday
May 20 - bf brother's bday

So, I am hereby banning conception during a few months of the year for all friends and family. No babies can be conceived in February, March, or August. This will prevent birthdays in November, December, and May. November is my other bad month, and December just sucks because no kid wants their birthday and Christmas presents lumped.

Well, I suppose it is time to stop rambling; I should get some rest.

Fridayitis

Why is it that every Friday I develop a severe case of Fridayitis that can only be cured when the clock shows 4:30?

It's horrid -- the day passes slowly no matter how much I have to do, and it's just miserable. I would rather be sleeping or playing a game or even, heaven forbid, doing homework (at home). Today, it's sleep. I wish I was home in my nice warm bed with the fluffy pillows...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I hate school! La la la la la!

That's pretty much it. I'll be glad when I'm finally finished...I won't regret having done it, but I regret not having time for other things I want to do.

This is kind of my Friday, and I don't have Algebra tonight -- so as soon as my paper gets turned in, I am taking the evening off to do something fun like go out to dinner or watch a movie or play a game! It'll be nice. I'll hate myself tomorrow because I'll be behind again, but I need a day off.

Stuff

Sorry I've not posted in a while -- between life and school, things have been pretty hectic.

First, my boyfriend's mom passed away. We knew it was coming, so it was not sudden in the way that someone getting hit by a bus would be...but, I think it was still sooner than we had anticipated. We're all glad she's not in pain anymore, but we all miss her and it sucks that's she's gone. It's really weird, too. We did all get to say our goodbyes to her; one night, 2 days before she actually passed, she called us all in to say the final goodbyes. After that, she never really checked back in, which was just as well because it probably took all she had to do what she did. Long live The Mama, may she rest in peace.

Along with that, I am also in school taking Research & Statistics 2...and Algebra I (still). I will be SO glad when Algebra is over and I can take the summer off from my land class(es)...it's quite draining to have to be in school mode 24/7.

And, along with those, I of course am still working. Nothing different there at the moment, since everyone is back from vacation and things are getting back to normal, but I spend practically every spare moment working on school. Lunch every day consists of either sitting at the computer, reading, or doing some assignment. It's like I never get a break. *sigh* But, I work there so I can sort of half-way relax at home.

And, along with all of that, the boyfriend and I, and his sisters, are in the process of a). finding places to move and b). figuring out what to do with all the junk that's in this house. So far we've chatted about cleaning, moving everything out of the garage for the sorting process, then loading garbage/throwaways back into the garage for disposal by a company called 1800gotjunk. (www.1800gotjunk.com) It sounds like it will be a good thing; not only would we be saved the trouble of renting a dumpster, but we also would not have to load it. They say they can recycle as much as 70% of what they pick up, AND they clean when they get done loading the junk in their truck :D The other thing to do is decide what exactly to do with the junk could be some other person's treasure :) I found a company (We Auction Your Stuff) that will auction things on eBay and then send a check to us after the items sold, but the items need to be worth more than $20 and I am unsure of what we might actually be able to drop off to them. We may end up listing a lot of things on our own, and then having a garage sale/donating the rest. Oh, and this all needs to be done before the end of May :)

My boyfriend and I did find an apartment in a complex that we really like, and they take our dog and two cats :) We paid the deposit and reserved an apartment, and now we're just waiting to get confirmation on a move-in date. I don't think we'll hear anything until the beginning of May, but it's tentatively set for mid-May.

So, May is as follows:

May 14th -
9am-3pm Move the boyfriend & me to our apt
3pm-5pm Wait for the cable people to show up
6-? Finish moving junk, hopefully move the definite "keep" stuff to storage

May 15-May 26
Clean like mad! Sort like crazy!

May 27
Clean-up day, gotjunk is coming/getting a dumpster this day (whichever we decide)

May 28
Move day! Get all the other junk to storage!

Of course, all dates are pending because the landlord's wife is wanting to talk to us before Friday and we're kind of unsure of what this is about. They want to show the house? They want us out sooner? If they want to show the house, they're stupid -- they have to replace the carpets when we move...it needed it when the family moved in here, and now 6 years and a billion animals later it's 200x worse than it started out. Nonetheless, if they want to show it we have some major cleaning to do and not a lot of time to do it in.

So, I won't be posting much between homework, studying, work, cleaning, packing, and keeping myself from going insane :)

There's the update, it was a long one. :)

Grade for Statistics

OK, so last week I had a couple assignments left for grading and I had a 76%. At that point I was looking at the possible points, and thought...oh please please please let me just get 4 more points so I can have a B.

I got a 94% :D

I think that's the best A I've ever gotten!

Break, woohoo!

I am finally done with the first installment of Statistics! And, this week is Spring Break from the land class, so I actually have a completely free night -- I am so excited :) This weekend I am going to sit around watching movies, reading, and playing games :D

I have The Notebook from Blockbuster, and I should have the newest Bridget Jones mailing ASAP, along with Finding Neverland. On my DVR box, I have 3 movies saved...The Horse Whisperer, Personal Velocity, and Tomb Raider 2.

I'm stoked!

I also have to catch up on Sims 2, City of Heroes, and EverQuest...I see a weekend of vegging in my future :D

Anime

I'm fairly new to the world of anime, but there are some things I've seen and really enjoyed (for those who are not familiar with the term Anime, it is simply in reference to Japanese animation).

Some must-sees:

Trigun
Macross Plus
Princess Mononoke
Cowboy Bebop

I'm currently watching Fullmetal Alchemist, and it's very very good. I haven't seen the whole thing, but I am tempted to say it's a must-see as well.

A TV series I enjoy is Dragonball Z (or DBZ), but it's kind of like a soap opera (in the sense that a week could go by and you won't have missed anything), so it isn't a must-see but it's fun.

Utopia

Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by my all-time favorite artist, Alanis Morissette. It's from her album called "Under Rug Swept."

Utopia
We’d gather around all in a room fasten our belts engage in dialogue
We’d all slow down rest without guilt not lie without fear disagree sans judgment

We would stay and respond and expand and include and allow and forgive and
Enjoy and evolve and discern and inquire and accept and admit and divulge and
Open and reach out and speak up

This is utopia this is my utopia
This is my ideal my end in sight
Utopia this is my utopia
This is my nirvana
My ultimate

We’d open our arms we’d all jump in we’d all coast down into safety nets

We would share and listen and support and welcome be propelled by passion not
Invest in outcomes we would breathe and be charmed and amused by difference
Be gentle and make room for every emotion

We’d provide forums we’d all speak out we’d all be heard we’d all feel seen

We’d rise post-obstacle more defined more grateful we would heal be humbled
And be unstoppable we’d hold close and let go and know when to do which we’d
Release and disarm and stand up and feel safe

This is utopia this is my utopia
This is my ideal my end in sight
Utopia this is my utopia
This is my nirvana
My ultimate

Oreos

So...I had some Oreos out today sitting on the couch, where I was waiting on them to go stale. I guess my cat was pretty hungry because the next thing I know, the little retard (as we so fondly refer to her) was sneaking away with one hanging ever so precariously from her mouth.

Mind you, this cat turns her nose up at meat, so I am sure you can imagine my surprise when she tried to steal my Oreos.

Life will never be the same...I have an Oreo thief, and it walks on four legs.

*sigh*

Dragons

I saw a really cool show yesterday on Animal Planet called Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real.

It was a documentary similar to Walking With Dinosaurs (which I haven't actually seen, but I've been told it's similar), and followed the stories of two dragons. It was really interesting and if you happened to miss it, it will play at least 3 more times on Animal Planet (probably more like 50, if it's anything like Walking With Dinosaurs), or it is available on DVD through the website.

It's a must-see :)

Dodging homework again

Here I am again, messing around with my blog instead of doing homework :) I added a whole links section that wasn't there yesterday (Aubs is probably the only one who even saw it yesterday), and I even made sure they all work!

Today was rather uneventful. I worked, I came home, I started on homework then got stuck, and now I am here :) If only I could figure out how to do my homework...hmm...

Entry one

As mentioned in the title, this is my first entry. As I type this, I should be doing my homework for Statistics, but I don't feel like it. If no one has ever told you, statistics sucks. Well, maybe if it wasn't
a). online
b). condensed to 5 weeks
and
c). in addition to another math class I am already taking at a campus

it would be ok. But, being that I do have to work and take that other math class, it kinda blows.

Well I suppose I can't put off homework any longer -- ta ta.
